Corrado Giaquinto

Corrado Giaquinto (8 February 1703 – 18 April 1766) was an important Italian Rococo painter celebrated for his lively compositions and rich coloration. He was born in Molfetta, located in the Apulia region of southern Italy.
Giaquinto began his training in Naples, where he fell under the influence of prominent Baroque artists such as Francesco Solimena. Over time, his style developed to reflect the lighter, more ornamental features typical of the Rococo era, distinguished by graceful figures and radiant color schemes.
During his career, Giaquinto worked in several prominent European cities, among them Rome, Turin, and Madrid. He became the court painter to King Charles III of Spain, producing impressive frescoes and altarpieces for royal residences and churches.
Corrado Giaquinto’s body of work encompasses many religious and mythological paintings that can be seen in museums and churches across Italy and Spain. His influence on 18th-century art helped to connect the Baroque with the Rococo, earning him a reputation as one of the foremost artists of his time.
